Your Energy Options

Customers who do not sign a contract for electricity are served by the regulated rate option (RRO).

The regulated rate reflects the current market price, which fluctuates up and down on a monthly basis making prices less predictable for consumers. The regulated rate will have higher price volatility, which can result in price spikes from one month to the next.

This rate is based on the cost of energy as released by the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) and the Alberta Power Pool price that fluctuates on a monthly basis. Members on the RRO option will be advised of the cost per kWh on a monthly basis.

The RRO Rate is the rate calculated using the Board approved RRO Price Setting Plan.

Members on the Regulated Rate Option (RRO) were protected for the months of January, February and March 2023 by a 13.5 cent per kilowatt hour price ceiling as part of the Alberta Affordability Action Plan.

Any costs above the 13.5 cent ceiling for January, February and March 2023 was deferred until April 2023 and will be added to the set RRO Rate each month over 21 months (April 2023 to December 2024).

APRIL 2024 PROVINCIAL RRO DEFERRAL COLLECTION RATE - 9.383 CENTS/kWh (included in the 21.039 cents/kWh).

This rate is only available to members within Lakeland REA service area.

If you wish to sign a contract, Lakeland Power Co-op offers a Stable Rate Contract.

As of January 1, 2024, the Stable Rate Contract price is set at 10.2 cents/kwh for a one year term expiring on December 31, 2024 for all Lakeland Power Co-op members in good standing.

Eligibility conditions include:

  • Member must have an up-to-date Electrical Service Contract on file.
  • Must be a member of good standing, meaning your account must be paid in full and remain paid in the upcoming months. If your account falls into arrears, you contract will be void and you will default to the fluctuating Regulated Rate Option.

Lakeland Power Co-op encourages members who are considering electricity contracts to ensure that you understand the terms and conditions, as they are not consistent with every company. If you want additional information, contact the Utilities Consumer Advocate (toll-free: 310-4822 or http://www.ucahelps.alberta.ca).

If you have not signed a Lakeland Power Co-op Stable Rate Option Contract, then you automatically default to the RRO which does fluctuate on a monthly basis.

Lakeland Power Co-op offers a Micro-Generator Rate.  This rate provides a fixed price for a specified period of time.

Micro-generation is a small-scale local electricity production, which uses renewable and alternative energy sources.  Solar power is the most common micro-generation in Alberta, and you can use the power you generate to offset a portion of your own electricity consumption.

Lakeland Power Co-op's Micro-generator rate is offered at a price of 30 cents per kwh.  It is intended that the start date be April 1 of the current year and the expiry of this offer would then be September 30 of the current year.

Please contact the office at 780-632-6112 for more details on this rate.
